Next Generation Networks -The need for Adaptive Management
Ben Volkow CTO and Founder
Traffix Systems Ltd

***********************

The telecom world is going through both a technological and business revolution, new Next Generation Networks based on IMS architecture are being tested and introduced by network operators. NGN networks offer new functionality to subscribers and enable operators to drastically cut costs and introduce new services in much shorter times than in the past.

New Real Time Multimedia services like PTT, VoD and Conferencing are being rolled out and boundaries between different networks and bearers are quickly disappearing as Fixed Mobile Convergence is uniting different networks with different access technologies under one merged IP core network.

However all this new set of abilities also introduces new obstacles and challenges to operators. Existing GSM and GPRS Legacy services management methods are not efficient enough to handle the new QoS sensitive Multimedia services introduced in NGN, the combination of different networks with different access abilities makes meeting the expected user experience only harder, the usage of shared network resources introduces resource cannibalization issues and emphasizes the need for Service Level Agreement management and a way for operators to guarantee QoS in an End to End manner.

Also the new business models introduced by NGN using IMS enabling easier Mobile Virtual Network Operators integration and the openness to 3rd party suppliers only emphasizes further the need for new management methods not only as a mechanism for upgrading the user experience but also for traffic prioritizing and cost cut methods.New dynamic management mechanisms are required in this new environment in order to successfully handle NGN emerging needs and enable operators to supply those awaited new services the way users are expecting them.

In my presentation I will discuss the shifts in the telecom world, new emerging management needs in NGN and discuss different methods and solutions for those new challenges.

The internal Threat

Industry statistics consistently show that the most significant security threat to the organization comes from within. With over 60% of confidential data residing on the endpoints IDC Report, over 70% of security breaches originating from within Vista Research, and data losses accounting for some $50 billion in damage to US companies last year alone The Economist - both malicious and accidental internal threats must be dealt with head-on.

Enterprises today are making internal security - and especially internal access to network resources-their highest priority, even above gateway solutions like antivirus and firewalls. Today's greatest enterprise security challenge is - how to provide access to key information without exposing it to risk? How to trust internal users - but retain enough control over their actions to verify their reliability?

The Goal - Endpoint Connectivity without Fear

In a world of never-ending connectivity, the struggle for data security has moved from the gateway to the endpoint. Enterprise endpoints are swamped with new connectivity options - PDAs, USB drives, CD/DVD-RW and iPods, as well as more advanced technologies based on WiFi, Bluetooth, and IrDA - all can connect seamlessly and instantaneously to the organizational network. The result- increased productivity, with a corresponding increase in the danger of information leakage and data theft.

Based on patent-pending Digital Membrane technology, Safend's innovative endpoint security solutions deliver complete visibility and granular control over all enterprise endpoints - enabling connectivity and productivity, without sacrificing security.
