3DV - Introducing The Next Level Of Man - Machine Interface Based On 3 - Dimentional Camera

3DV Systems has developed, and successfully launched, the first single-video-camera capable of sensing depth and motion at accuracy and speed never considered possible before. 3DV Systems' image sensor generates distance (depth) information for each object captured by the camera, as well as color (Red, Green and Blue) information.


The technology is based on Time-Of-Flight (TOF) principle. The Depth information is captured by emitting pulses of infrared light to all objects in the scene, and sensing the reflected light from the surface of each object using gated imaging and a very fast proprietary shutter.


The 3DV sensor offers real-time (30-60 fps) performance, capability to zoom in depth and standard video output advantages. With graphics power reaching its limit in the ability to create new immersive experience, it has become evident that next generation gaming is seeking new levels of interactivity through new intuitive interface. 3DV has the proven technology to lead this paradigm shift.

Automotive applications using computer vision are becoming mainstream. This talk will start with a survey of the application we are seeing or likely to see in the near future and the core technologies reguired to support them such as lane, vehicle and pedestrian detection. The talk will then move on to discuss some of the technological challenges of computer vision system design in this domain, which has strict and often conflicting reguirements.


On the one hand the algorithms reguire considerable computing power to work reliably in real-time and under a wide range of lighting conditions. On the other hand, the system cost must be kept loW, the package size must be small and the power consumption must be low. In addition, automotivegualified parts must be used both to withstand the harsh operating environment and to guarantee long product life.
