Applications Of Inorganice Fullerene - Like NanoParticles : Enhanced Performance Under Extreme Conditions
Dr.Niles A.Fleischer
NanoMaterials Ltd.

********************

Basic research has led to the discovery of a new class of inorganic nanostructures with a closed cage structure termed inorganic fullerene-like nanoparticles and nanotubes (IF). These nanoparticles, due to their nanosize, shape, chemistry, and structure have unique properties making them attractive for many applications. The inorganic fullerenes are multi-walled structures that can be produced as either nanospheres or nanotubes. Efforts have led to the successful scale-up of production of IF culminating in the establishment of a company that is applying these novel materials to solve problems in a wide range of fields. This paper will focus on the use of IF for enhancing the performance of moving parts and in composite materials for ballistic protection.

One of the most remarkable physical properties of IFs is that they are probably the strongest cage molecules known today. IF powders withstand shockwave pressures of 300 tons/cm2 demonstrating their extreme resilience to impact.

One of the most promising applications that exploits this feature is as a solid lubricant. It reduces friction and wear significantly better than conventional lubricants, especially under severe conditions of load, humidity and vacuum. It can be used in the automotive, aerospace, and heavy equipment markets as an additive to enhance fluid lubricants and in coatings.

IF materials can also be used to reinforce fibers and matrices to create ultra high strength nanocomposites for ballistic protection for individuals and vehicles. IF is classified as a safe and non-toxic material according to internationally accepted standards.

Nano-lnjectors As A Vehicle For Active Topical Drug Delivery
Dr. Tamar Lotan, Ari Ayalon, Esther Shaoul, Miri Offir, Noa Sagi
NanoCyte Ltd

*******************

NanoCyte has developed a novel platform technology that can actively and immediately deliver therapeutics into the viable skin, using nano-injectors.

NanoCyte bypasses side effects associated with oral drug delivery and avoids poor compliance associated with syringe injections. NanoCyte drug delivery technology leverages a sophisticated injection system optimized by sea life over 700
million years. The delivery system is composed of microcapsules that, upon activation, eject a long tubule resembling a thin nano needle that penetrates the skin in a fraction of a second. The ability to penetrate hard keratinus tissues such as the tough outer layer of the skin, nails or hair is an outcome of a 150 atmosphere pressure build-up within the microcapsule, and a conseguent acceleration of the nano-injector at 40,000g. The immediate delivery of hydrophilic drugs as well as peptides with NanoCyte technology has been demonstrated.

NanoCyte has successfully completed an in-man safety study, and is in the process of approving an IND study. NanoCyte offers an immediate, painless solution by using topical nano-injectors for various indications including local anesthesia, pain, dermatology treatments as well as low biocompatibility systemic indications. The company is also studying peptide and protein immediate release delivery.
