Non-Invasive Embolic Protection Technology
Dr.Nathan Sela
Neurosonix

*************************************

Intra-procedural embolism is considered as one of the major complications of cardiac surgery as well as various catheter-based procedures. The clinical consequences of embolism are in many cases neurological such as stroke, encephalopathy or cognitive deficit or ischemic damages in other parts of the body. For example, the incidence of stroke post cardiac surgery is estimated as3-4% while the incidence of cognitive deficit reaches a stunning figure of 50-80% among cardiac surgical patients.

Neurosonix has conceived and developed a unique technology based on ultrasound, which enables to use acoustic energy to non-invasively control the flow of embolic material flowing inside arteries, either bubbles or solid particulates, and divert them away from vessels leading to the brain. Thus, avoiding the ischemic injury to brain tissue. The technology is based on utilizing the so called "acoustic radiation force" exerted by traveling acoustic waves on particles and bubbled suspended in liquid.

The first device developed by NeuroSonix is the EmBlockerTM, intended and designed to provide cerebral embolic protection during open-chest cardiac surgical procedures such as coronary bypass, heart valve repair or replacement etc. The EmBlockerTM currently undergoes First-in-Man clinical trials. The second device to be developed by NeuroSonix is the Protection Collar intended to provide cerebral embolic protection during minimally invasive cardiac surgery and cath lab practice.

Associative Processing For Video And Graphics In Handheld Devices
Dr. Avidan Akerib
Neomagic Israel Ltd

************************************

The demand for video and graphics functionality in handheld devices drives two contentious requirements: the need for high performance processing capability and the need for longer battery life in small and lightweight systems. When choosing new handheld devices, users demand products that are exciting and engaging to use, convenient to carry in a pocket and equipped with a long battery life. To meet these requirements, Neomagic has developed an application processor that focus on three concurrent benefits: High quality multimedia video, imaging and graphics, Low power consumption for longer battery life and High integration for small system form factors.

Neomagic Approach is based on computational memory approach called Associative Processor Array (APA), a co-processing architecture designed for efficient processing and efficient data transactions of multimedia data. The APA engine employs a massively parallel single-instruction, multiple-data (SIMD) architecture that associate on 512 data words per clock cycle. This parallel association results in very high performance for multimedia algorithms which often have a high degree of parallelism in their data without increased clock rates.

The APA engine is appears in Neomagic "MiMagic-6" chip that integrated into many of the next generation cell phones. It is designed to deliver the highest quality video conferencing, satellite TV, image enhancements, object tracking and 3D games in the smallest form factors, with the lowest power consumption.
