Welcome to The Israel Innovation Summit at the Congress Center of Haifa; The city of rare combination of qualities.

The city’s breathtaking landscape stretching down from Mount Carmel to Haifa Bay is surrounded by luscious forests and long sandy beaches.

Haifa has the largest deep-sea port in Israel, and advanced petrochemical industries, refineries and shipping terminals located adjacent to it.

Haifa is a city in which residents of all religions live amicably side by side, in mutual respect, representing a lifestyle that has become a role model in Israel and the entire world.

But more than this, Haifa is characterized as being a city housing the State of Israel’s centralized science infrastructure.

About 35,000 students are studying in Haifa, half of them at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, the breeding ground for the country’s future engineers, scientists and high–tech researchers.

In 2004, Israel’s scientific and technological community celebrated, together with the Technion, the conferment of the 2004 Nobel in Chemistry onto two scientists from the Technion’s Faculty of Medicine - Prof. Aaron Ciechanover and Prof. Avram Hershko.

In Haifa, Israel’s high-tech industry developed.

In Haifa, Israel’s first high-tech park was established, housing the largest research centers in the world.

Here, international companies are developing the most sophisticated and advanced equipment in the world.

Phillips is developing medical scanning equipment and Elbit is producing helmet-mounted guidance systems for fighter pilots.

Haifa’s Intel engineers created the “Centrino” laptop, which was developed and marketed here in Haifa.

As the saying goes, “Most new laptops in the world has something in it that was made in Haifa.”

IBM has the largest R&D Center in the world outside the USA, and Google has just decided to develop a research center here.

There cloud not be a more appropriate place than Haifa to host The Israel Innovation Summit.

We in Haifa have created and strengthened the bridge from academic studies, through the research and development stage, up to the finished product.

One behalf of all the residents of Haifa, I am proud and delighted to be hosting you here in Haifa.
