Micro 2015: Envolving Processor Architecture For Plat Form 2015
Adi Golbert
Director of Planning, Mobility Group, Intel

**********************************

Is performance getting commoditized ? Are we getting to a point that people are satisfied with the current performance levels computers are delivering? This talk will try to address this questions which in Intel's mind have a clear answer. NO. We are at the beginning of the performance treadmill. We will discuss a few macro trends which have a significant impact on the performance requirements going forward: Pervasive Connectivity with Proactive Computing, Data Growth with High Performance Computing, the Internet as Computer and Conduit and last but not least the impact of globalization on computing.

The talk will discuss some key technologies which will be in focus on the comingIntel architectures: General Purpose Performance and the need for specialized performance. The need for delivering performance power efficiently. The development of Manageable, reliable and serviceable platforms. Energy efficient computing has become Intel's latest flagship. This trend has deep roots and innovative ideas on the products developed in Intel Israel which will be of special interest to the audience.

Another area of great focus which will be discussed is Virtualization, amega-trend which will affect all future computing platforms. To conclude the talk we will exposeIntel's vision for the PC in 2015. We call it Micro-2015. Intel various R&D organizations use Micro-2015 as a macro vector of the future computing needs and are hard at Work developing its various technology elements, many of those being led by the R&D centers in Israel.

Improving Transport by Bringing Metro Eathernet to its Origins

Ethos Networks

*******************

Ethos is developing a carrier grade Ethernet advanced services edge switch. Unlike any other existing product in the metro networking market, Ethos is the only solution to combine the simplicity of Ethernet, with real-time global network optimization algorithms to provide advanced high-level data services using robust and simple Ethernet based devices.

The Ethos Concept is based on Ethernet edge switch for aggregating and transmitting data traffic over an Ethernet infrastructure, the edge device implementing patented admission control algorithm, based on global traffic information, and the traffic is switched throughout the network, using patented quasi-static routing, based on global network statistics, to provide pre-defined QOS for various customers in a packet-switched network.

In metro area networking, Service providers are seeking to offer multiple services across one common packet switched infrastructure. Carriers are required to achieve both a high level of user multiplexing (or oversubscription of the network) and provide lucrative, profitable services. Such profitable services inevitably mean high degrees of network performance (SLA maintenance, QoS and bandwidth management).

Maintaining both these requirements while keeping network operation simple and loW@cost is a key demand in today metro markets. To date, all products in the metro market either provide high service quality, but at a very high costs and complexity, or compromise or do not provide quality services at all. Ethos proposes to break this paradigm providing both quality and simplicity at a very attractive total cost of ownership.
